Islamabad: According to press reports, Planning Minister Asad Umar instructed the Ministry of Communication to speed up construction on the Zhob-Quetta Road and Thakot-Raikot Road projects during a meeting of the Pak-China Relations Steering Committee on Monday. He also instructed the ministry to present ideas to the Cabinet by next week in order for the project to forward to the next level of development.

The participants were warned that local and foreign investors were becoming more interested in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and that any delay in the process of selecting a developer for the project may be troublesome. As a consequence of the discussion, it was determined that the planning minister will raise this matter with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The Allama Iqbal Industrial City was also reviewed during the meeting, with a representative from the Board of Investment stating that the board member list for the Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company had been finalized (FIEDMC).

In addition, the committee reviewed the delay in supplying utilities to the Gwadar Port and Free Zone. In this respect, the meeting was told of a possible investment opportunity in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Gwadar, as well as the fact that three large firms have already expressed interest in developing LNG facilities in the region. Asad Umar, the Minister of Planning, has directed the Ministry of Petroleum to make it easier for investors and to work with other ministries to resolve any difficulties that arise.
