Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved the Rs20.17 billion construction of infrastructure to remove level crossings from the loop part of the Karachi Circular Railways.

The project was proposed to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration during the CDWP meeting, which was presided over by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan.

Senior officials from the Planning Commission and federal ministries/divisions were also in attendance, as were representatives from provincial governments via video conference.

Officials said the proposed buildings will help to eliminate 22 level crossings on the KCR loop between Drigh Road and Karachi City Station, making it a more reliable method of public transportation. Jehanzeb Khan urged all responsible officials to guarantee that the projects are completed on time, since the project is critical to the people of Karachi’s socioeconomic well-being.
