Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) decided on Tuesday to hire around 950 people to beef up its sanitation department. Syed Asif Ali, a CDA official, said the agency would hire 16 truck loaders in addition to sanitation staff. He stated that the CDA has issued a call for applications to fill the positions.
The civic agency, on the other hand, has yet to purchase its own machinery, putting an end to the practise of hiring machines. In July of this year, CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed urged the responsible wings to discontinue the habit of hiring machinery and purchase their own within three months.
The CDA cancelled a cleaning and garbage collection contract in February of this year after an examination revealed that the contract had been awarded in violation of the guidelines. After cancelling the contract, the CDA sent the case to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Under the above-mentioned initiative, which cost Rs650 million per year, the contractor was supposed to clean and collect trash using its own machinery and 1,200 sanitation staff and machines from the city’s metropolitan areas.
After the previous contract was cancelled, the CDA awarded a new contract for Rs 510 million for the express purpose of employing machinery. A special committee of CDA also opposed the rates of this tender.
On the other hand, the contract which was cancelled in February covered both machinery and staff and it was awarded against Rs650 million. Sources said that in July, when the matter of new contract was placed.
