Islamabad: The federal cabinet gave the civic agency authority to implement its regulations in E-11, which prohibit unplanned building, on Tuesday.

In a summary of its appeal to the federal cabinet for authority to enforce its bylaws in E-11, the CDA also asked for the reversal of a 1968 order by then-President Ayub Khan exempting the revenue estate of Golra from land acquisition. The CDA decided to maintain a regulatory eye on the industry after the recent floods in E-11.

Though the civic body is meant to oversee all structures and residences inside Islamabad’s 906 square kilometres, it has mostly limited itself to its own sectors, leaving E-11 unregulated under the guise of the sector’s “exempt” status. As a result, unlicensed structures sprang like mushrooms.

Three of the five housing societies are functioning without no-objection certifications, including the Medical Cooperative Housing Society, which recently experienced urban flooding (NOCs).
