Karachi: The ancient Wazirabad railway station, according to businessmen, is the best location for launching a freight train to Karachi.
They claim that the train station includes a large freight terminal that has been in disarray for a long time but can be restored in a short period of time. The railway authorities have yet to make a decision in this regard.
The Wazirabad station is around 15 to 30 kilometres from the golden triangle of industrial towns of Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Wazirabad. This railway junction also has the unusual capability of running cargo trains up to Karachi through two routes: the Lahore route and the Faisalabad route.
Electric fan exporters in Gujart are also in favour of launching the freight train from Wazirabad rather than Gujranwala. Wazirabad is recognised for cutlery and stainless utensils, Sialkot for sports and surgical products, leather garments and sportswear, and Gujranwala for engineering goods, home appliances, plastic furniture, and other industries.
