Lahore: According to news sources, the province administration has set aside 35 percent of the Annual Development Project budget for infrastructure and development projects in South Punjab. Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur would receive PKR 189.228 billion in funding to complete existing and new projects.

The following is a breakdown of the funding allocated to the Annual Development Project:

  • PKR 35.702 billion for special initiatives

  • PKR 15.362 billion for primary and secondary education, PKR 4.866 billion for higher education
  • PKR 1.015 billion for learning and non-formal education
  • PKR 1.806 billion for sports and youth matters
  • PKR 28.304 billion for specialized healthcare and medical education
  • PKR 5.886 billion for primary & secondary healthcare
  • PKR 7.679 billion for public buildings

The federal government has committed PKR 90 billion for road and connectivity-related infrastructure under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), in addition to the fiscal year budget 2021-2022. The monies would be used for the Gujranwala-Sialkot Motorway project, according to the province government. In addition to the enormous road development project, the Punjab government plans to invest PKR 3.5 billion in power supply projects for Faisalabad’s Allama Iqbal Industrial Zone.
