Rawalpindi: A handcuffed property tycoon was allegedly rescued from police custody by armed men with the connivance of a gang of lawyers on Tuesday, prompting the arrest of up to 45 persons, including 15 lawyers.
According to the FIR, Chaudhry Nadeem Ijaz, a director of a private housing association, walked out of the courtroom when his interim bail was revoked, but was apprehended by the police after a brief chase.
It went on to say that three lawyers named in the FIR, together with ten to fifteen of their colleagues, began squabbling with the cops. The FIR quoted Chauntra police Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Asif as saying that the police van with the accused on board had barely made the U-turn after crossing Soan Bridge when it was halted by a convoy of 15 heavy vehicles, three jeeps, and four automobiles.
According to SI Asif, some of the convoy’s members were armed with Kalashnikovs, while another, Naeem Ijaz, was armed with a handgun. They confronted the police and demanded the release of Nadeem Ijaz.
Meanwhile, according to SI Asif, Naeem’s associates began fighting with the cops, while Fahim Ijaz managed to free the detained Nadeem Ijaz from police custody and flee. SI Mohammad Safeer’s phone was also taken by the suspects. The accused, Nadeem Ijaz, was granted interim release by the Lahore High Court (LHC) till November 30.
